Something like,
When I was in Edinburgh, I went into a little independent print shop and found a postcard. It was low down on those spinning holders. It was the last one left. I have never bought a postcard so quickly. It was of a warm-toned autumnal fair-isle sweater. Now, I've never seen the sweater that inspired the illustration, but I just know in my soul, that item of clothing is loved.

blah blah blah THINK IVE CHANGED MY MIND AGAIN !!!
what if I chat about Poly Styrene's fashion and ideas as part of X ray Spex, next to Celia Pym's mended sweaters? It would be about clothing (slightly grandma punk) and generally (and most importantly) ANTI-CONSUMERIST. inherently punk to mend.
Maybe Celia Pym's stuff isn't quite what I'm looking to - but basically, the lyrics of Art-I-Ficial, Plastic Bag, and The Day The World Turned Day-Glo feel v v relevant but how idk because my practice is not particularly music-based. Maybe am I talking about how punk-culture is sustainable long term - am I chatting about X ray Spex and tehching hseih ? Capitalism and going through the motions - cogs may never stop turning. Then a brief mention of Celia Pyms latest fashion turn of anti-capitalist shit in a more sustainable manner. THIS
P1 X Ray Spex lyrics and its starkly pro environment, anti- capitalist lens !
P2 Tehching Hsieh conforming to capitalist hellscape to sort of unveil how shit it actually is
P3 (sort of) how to unveils itelf in current day, Celia Pyms more quiet anti-capitalist stuff
I reckon;
P1 -
P2 -
P3 -

X Ray Spex (specific lyrics)
- Art-I-Ficial "my existence is elusive, the kind that is supported by mechanical resources"
- Art-I-Ficial "I know I'm artificial but don't put the blame on me, I was reared with appliances in a consumer society"
- Plastic Bag "I eat Kleenex for breakfast, and use soft hygienic Weetabix to dry my tears"
- Plastic Bag "1977 and we are going mad, 1977 and we've seen too many ads, 1977 and we're gonna show them all apathy's a drag"
- The Day the world turned Day-Glo "I wrenched the nylon curtains back as far as they would go, then peered through Perspex window panes, at the acrylic road and watched the world turn Day-Glo"
Tehching Hseih - One Year Performance 1980-81 (core facts)
- he took a photo every hour on the hour
- shaved his hair at the beginning, did not change his visual appearance the whole year
- used a workers punch clock to mark each hour
- wore the same clothing all year
- SPECULATION - intensely damaging for his health, never getting more than an hour of sleep at a time, surely changing his entire world for a year ??
Immediate thoughts;
These have gotta be linked otherwise I'm insane - but maybe that's not the essay - still unsure about Tehching Hseih
