INITIAL STATEMENT OF INTENT

In the last project, I have been very interested in creating works about London and for West Londoners, specifically, North Kensington. I've been raised in W10 my whole life, it means a lot to me, I've spent a long time being mocked by mates for how much I talk about home - as if it isn't a fundamental part of me, like everybody else's home is to them.

I'm also quite interested in clothing and creation - I've been reading What Artists Wear by Charlie Porter, and I really do think peoples choices of what to wear both in daily life, but also in the studio is really telling about their own creative practice, I kind of want to better solidify my own studio clothes, perhaps making them myself

Though also I'm interested in plastics right now too and the permanence of branding and how logos remain both in cultural memory and also physically in landfills, plastic is not something easy to rid yourself of, it stays in the world and in the mind

Right now, I'm thinking of vintage Tesco bags a lot - second hand, I bought 50 vintage bags, and I will be using the modern spare bags I have too. I will not be going out of my way to entertain purchases of more plastic than I already consume. It just removes the entire point of using these plastics found second-hand.

This statement of intent is sort of all over the place simply because my brain feels like it is exploding with ideas, all I know is I want to make, and seemingly I'm interested in everything. I am just going to continue to more forwards. And continue to make.

  1. I think reading back on this statement of intent, while it absolutely does reflect things I want to be doing moving forwards, for this project, I think I've already noticed I want to hone in on the clothing side of things. I speak more about this in my revised statement of intent.
